So a thing happened and I'm kinda flabbergasted. There appears to be a campaign to shut down the Mostr (Nostr <> ActivityPub bridge). Dunno how big it is, but apparently at least one DMCA complaint has been filed. This is all on account of the bridge duplicating posts and profiles on ActivityPub.

For those unaware, THIS IS LITERALLY HOW ACTIVITY PUB IS BUILT TO WORK. Every Activity Pub server duplicates content. Without it there'd be no seeing posts from anybody on servers other than their home server. It's literally the thing that makes the protocol work. If being on a protocol that specifically is designed to duplicate content isn't permission enough to duplicate content then the Fediverse goes poof. Zilch. Zero. Nada.

Convince Cloudflare, or worse - convince a judge - that a protocol designed around federating content isn't permission to federate content and that's that for #ActivityPub. I'd personally prefer to see both protocols do well; please, if anybody reads this, learn how things work before trying to break things for working as intended.

Very glad with how #nipy is coming along, I feel like the prompt I added to set credentials in keyring or choose the individual post/broadcast option brings it a step or two towards acceptable and away from spaghetti code.

I've got my makeshift #Python client finally to a sort-of-acceptable state. It can successfully post to #Nostr #ActivityPub (via the mastodon API) and #BlueSky. There's also a keyring version of it to keep your credentials properly managed by the OS instead of the script. Might be a bunch of spaghetti code, but it's my spaghetti code so I'm still excited to share it.

It still needs some work, but it's at least in a decent state now. I'd also welcome any contributions if anybody thought it was a worthy goal with an execution that needs some work still.

It's a bit long, but I just finished a #blog post comparing three different decentralized social media protocols (#activitypub #nostr & AT / #BlueSky) if it sounds interesting.

No concrete conclusions on anything, just a post that kept growing as I compared more stuff. One thing that did surprise me when I was making it was how AT seems like a cool implementation of decentralized blogging, too bad it's all just locked behind BlueSky at the moment.

Anyway, thought it was worth sharing. If you have any thoughts or especially if I got something wrong be sure to let me know - I can't be considered an expert on any of these protocols.

I've been working on a project and wanted to see if my fellow internet citizens would find it useful or would be interested in helping me build it out.

I made followanything.dns7.top a GitHub repo with the goal of listing out as many ways to follow various types of content with #RSS #email #Activitypub & #Nostr that otherwise couldn't usually be (e.g. YouTube videos). No ads/trackers/self promo on it. It's a draft rn but if you have any ways to improve it I'd love for you to send me a pull request, email, or Nostr message.
